Morning Workouts and Being Overbooked

This morning at the gym I did legs. I ran for about 10 minutes to warm up, did some sprints, then worked out my legs and butt. It was pretty short and sweet, but I got nice and sweaty.

After my workout I quickly drove to the shop that sells my favourite flavoured almond milk, bought all three flavours, then I had to go to work.

Being keto has been a lot harder recently than it has ever been before, but mostly due to my lack of time more than anything else.
It is the most ridiculous time of year, and everyone is having parties or gatherings, so this weekend we are traveling a couple of hours away to go to my partners family Christmas. Before that, I will have worked for my 11th day in a row, including a party this evening that he and I are working behind the bar at (student life……….).

So after this weekend I will be more than excited for a relax! I have actually booked myself to nearing the point of not sleeping at all between jobs.
(Constantly repeating the mantra “one more week til holidays, one more week til holidays”)

Running has been OK lately. I have been so busy that I’ve been opting for treadmill sprints over longer runs because it saves time.

That’s about it so far! I’ve been pretty good at getting up and going to the gym every morning, and bought some BCAA’s this week (they’re pretty delicious actually, but we will see if they work, stay tuned), I also started listening to a new (to me) podcast: Dan Carlon’s Hardcore History. It’s epic and dense, but he makes it super interesting! So give it a try if you feel like listening to a man talk about history in an interesting way.

I hope everyone is enjoying the season of being busy and trying to get everything done before Christmas, and I hope everyone in the southern hemisphere is staying cool in this heat!!!

Review: The Bright Sessions Podcast

Do you love podcasts as much as I do?

I’ve been listening to them for years now, progressing from one to the other quite quickly. I listen to them all the time: while running, driving, riding my bike to work, or when I’m cleaning the house. It’s a great way to keep entertained while doing something else, to keep your mind occupied, learn something, or to satisfy that fiction craving for when you don’t have the time to read.

I started The Bright Sessions a few months ago after a horror podcast binge I was on led me down some weird paths. I’d gone through so many podcasts and came across this one, which is a mix of some of my favourite kinds of podcasts: fiction, good production quality, Sci-fi/fantasy themes, and weirdness. It definitely checked a few boxes for me!

The Bright Sessions is a science fiction podcast based on the lives of a group of patients of Dr Bright, a therapist with an unusual choice of patients.
The show focuses mainly on the lives of a few “A-typicals” that all have different abilities, and how they manage everyday life.  Each of Dr Brights’ patients has regular life issues that are complicated by having telekinesis or the inability to stay in one dimension when anxious.

This show is strange. But in a good, I-don’t-know-what’s-going-on-anymore kind of way, not in the Tanis I-seriously-have-no-idea-where-this-could-possibly-be-going kind of way.

The character development has been well done, and each of the characters has their own normal issues, not just their a-typical ones. The voice-acting is superb (Dr Bright has the most soothing voice ever), the production quality is amazing, and I feel like the writers know where they’re going with the storyline… Unlike some podcasts I’ve listened to recently.
There are a few plot issues and some characters need a little more fleshing out (especially the bad ones), but overall it’s super easy to listen to. It’s exactly what you want from a fiction podcast. This is why it is one of my favourite podcasts at the moment.
I can definitely see why they’re optioning it for TV right now, it would totally make for a binge-worthy tv series!!!

Saturday Run Log: Getting back into it

Today was one of those perfect Canberra days: a slight breeze, and sunshine from 6am til 7pm. Unfortunately for me, I am at the tail end of the semester and have had four assignments due in one week.
So after submitting three of my assignments throughout the week, and with one to go, I decided to go for a run!

Setting: Local run around the neighbourhood
Distance: 5.01km
Time: 36:01
Average Pace: 7:11 /Km

Tunes: Spotify Playlist: “Zombies, Run!” by RIAVEG8 (Continued with this one, and surprisingly, it got better! 70’s rock makes running ok)

Continued with the Zombies, Run! missions released with Call of Duty and this episode had some more interesting parts to it, though it was still less exciting than I’d hoped, I’ve decided to persevere through them since I’d already started.

The Run
: It felt nice to get out of the house and into the sunshine. We’ve been AirBnb’ing our spare room, so I’d spent most of the day preparing the house for a new guest and listening to lectures. It was nice to get out into the sunshine. My lungs didn’t start burning straight away, and it was good to stretch my legs after the run yesterday, which left my glutes and hammies pretty tight!

Thoughts during:

  • I’m glad I put on sunscreen
  • Doubling up on the sports bra was a good idea
  • Tights will always will v. shorts for running
  • Eating lunch was another good idea
  • Eff me it’s hot
  • Should have thought about hydration
  • How far have I gone??!
